The story takes place in today's Ghana. According to Trokosi custom, if someone commits a crime, traditional leaders order that a young girl from that family be sent to the shrine as a form of atonement. The chief priest and his entourage genitally mutilate and sexually abuse the girl. Against all odds, the protagonist of the story escapes the shrine. How many times have you heard people say: "have faith."? It's a nice little quip, that's for sure. It's a positive trait to have faith. But faith by itself... is not enough.

You have probably heard the saying, "God helps those who help themselves," too.

Having faith is wonderful. To me it is the first and final ingredient. Faith will help you to do something or to be something. But the thing in the middle has to do with the desired outcome. That thing is WORK.

So, have faith, work hard then have more faith that the outcome will be all that you desire because you know in your heart and mind that you have done all that you can to succeed.
